The Special Olympics is an international organization that provides training and competition to children and adult athletes with intellectual disabilities. Each year, it serves around 4 million athletes in 170 different countries. Unlike the Olympics Games which are held once every 4 years, the Special Olympics happens in local places daily. Around 53,000 Special Olympics events, consisting of training, local, national and regional competitions, and health checkups take place yearly. At the sportings events, the Special Olympics wants its participants to show off their skills and to challenge themselves by trying new sports. Below, YungPost will examine the whole Special Olympics organization, ranging from its history to its unique projects.
