Description: Replacing favela opportunities with better ones! Bola Pra Frente, located in Guadalupe, Brazil, serves kids from age of 6-17. It offers kids soccer, education, and cultural opportunities as avenues to help their social advancement. The organization uses soccer, as in Brazil, the fascination with soccer and star soccer players, makes soccer most attractive to kids and most likely to inspire change in their lives. It sees soccer as a “playful language universal, which translates human contradictions, allowing the construction of values in a perspective of social promotion”.
How it started: Bola Pra Frente was founded by former Brazilian soccer star Jorginho in 2000. Jorginho, who grew up in Guadalupe, wanted to help and give back to his community. He had seen many childhood friends die while growing up in the favela, and didn’t want any other kids to suffer the same fate as his friends.
Its Success: Every year, Bola Pra Frente helps around 900 youth between the age of 6-17.
Its goal: To promote, through educational sports, social and educational activities that allow full and harmonious development of children and adolescents, making them agents of change in society.
